Today was a much more relaxing day after our whirlwind tour of Yellowstone yesterday. We spent the morning doing a bit of wandering around downtown Jackson Hole (Jackson Hole is the town center, Jackson is the larger area), and having a great breakfast. Then we headed out of town, towards Idaho.

Mom read off to me different activities to do in SE Idaho, and of course I chose the Potato Museum. We saw the world's largest potato crisp - 24" by 12". A crisp, by the way, is different from a chip in that it's made from different potatoes, not just one. So there are no two foot potatoes floating around out there. We drove another couple hours south and settled in Salt Lake City. Pretty town, right near the mountains, and has a working public transit system. It was also completely emp
ty for Memorial Day. We took a tour of the Mecca of Mormonism,Temple Square, led by two very sweet young women who were on their mission. They were very passionate about their faith but Mom very firmly told them that she did not want anyone to be calling her in a few weeks to discuss the life of Joseph Smith. I nodded along, thankful that she took the stand.
A long quest for an open restaurant landed us as a bar where our friendly bartender told us all the complications of liquor laws in Utah. Luckily for him, and for Utahans, the $5 'membership' fee to drink at a bar will no longer be necessary after July. So plan your trips now!
Dad here - I've passed your blog link on to Aunt Mary (who's looked at it w/envy) and to Uncle Rich/Aunt Betsey (who asked for it, but who knows if they'll ever look at it). We're all enjoying your commentary & pic's - Bridget commented on the potato today, so it's getting International acclaim!
ReplyDeleteAs I told you in an e-mail, we had another bear attack a few days ago and he took off with the birdfeeder. Well, I found the feeder yesterday, down by the woodpile, when I was stacking some wood there - guess he went thataway!
Enjoy your trip.
